2012 Topps Heritage High Number Set

So, I just found out about this 2012 Topps Heritage High Number set via another card forum. It was only available via ToppsOnline and is now sold out. It looks like it was discussed quite a bit in the Heritage thread but never made its way out of the thread. I guess I'm a bit disappointed that it wasn't mentioned in its own thread as it was an easy flip. Looks like they are selling for $200 already. Oh well, can't win em all. Who all scored one?

It's hard for me to imagine that these will hold significant value in the long run.

They are certainly limited, and I'm happy for all my collecting friends that scored sets for themselves. But it is essentially $1/card, or what I would imagine ends up being a gamble on the autographed card in the set. I'm really surprised that people are paying $200- for a set of 100 base cards plus one autograph.

  • i bought one to keep my master set run complete. But i am not happy about having 17 crap autos out of the 22 released. if i dont land one of the 5 decent autos, i will most likely be destroying it.

I bought one to keep the set run complete, and I always buy a box to keep sealed each year, so this was no different. If it goes up I'm holding onto it, if it tanks I'm holding onto it.

I think 1000 is very limited when you are talking about a highly collected set such as Heritage baseball. When you think about the regular pack issued set, if there were a card short printed to 1000...that card would command much more than $1. Now this comparison is not equal as the pack issued set would be more heavily collected, I still think its a fair starting point for the value. Maybe I'm way off mark and Heritage collectors won't see this set as a necessary addition.

Disagree -- but to each their own. The 2012 Topps basic set has a parallel set that is serially numbered to 2,012, and commons from that set can be had at $1/per all day long. (there's over 27,000 of them listed on Ebay!). Just my sense that the singles won't hold much value given that a) they're not serial-numbered and b) the demand does not seem like it should be huge as compared to other limited sets.

    Just my $0.02.

I opened 3 sets yesterday and pulled a Hague , Cozart and Darvish auto.

Each auto has a dinged corner.

The Hague is the worst, serious ding in it.
Cozart is second best with a good ding in it
Darvish is the best one but a small ding in corner. (at best a 7 with PSA, maybe a 10 without the ding)

The auto is the last card in the box opposite the seal.

Check the corners on that end carefully even the slightest bump (darvish auto) on those corners hit the card.

I will post some pics later tonight when I get home. Didn't have time last night.

  • My two boxes just arrived. I opened one and got a Brian Dozier (Twins) blue auto. I'll keep the other one sealed.

  • Was the set worth $100?

As the old saying goes, something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. There are about half as many cards per player in the set as there are 2012 Heritage chromes (1000 vs. 1963), and the chromes go for about a buck apiece, so it would appear to be "worth it".

Did Topps ever say what happened to cards 501 to 575?

Are you going to send the auto's back to Topps for replacements.............or is that not possible since they've
only stated a finite number made of each auto card ?????
Received my one set today ! Not sure if I'm going to open mine ! Probably leave it sealed and wait a year or two!
Have seen them selling on E-Bay for anywhere from $150 to $180 so far ! Appears to be some sellers that must have purchased
the max limit of 20 ???/ household to flip for a quick profit !

    Autos

    2. Kirk Nieuwenhuis - Mets (who????)
    3. Trevor Bauer - D'backs

All blue. I'm throwing them on the bay tonight. For those of you who bought multiple sets, you're welcome for increasing your chances for a Darvish, Harper, Cespedes. Along with team sets for 29 of the teams. May also list one of my Harpers as a single.

The Darvish I listed on ebay at $.99 and will be happy with whatever it sells for. I also listed two sets with out autos and will keep the third set.
Will Topps replaced the damaged cards?

I see the Harper Auto is out there for $260.00. So the red auto is in place of the blue and not a bonus?

I have two sets on my desk at home, not sure if I will open.

  • Looks like Topps has some serious quality control issues with this set. I thought about buying one but glad I didn't. I would have been quite ticked off after spending $100 and get a auto card with dinged corners

Don't tell me Topps screwed the pooch on this too?

I like the concept, was mildly disappointed in the Auto selection and disappointed in the set omissions...

... and now to hear the card stock is poor, packaging is subpar and overall quality control is lacking...?

...makes me wonder why these guys can't execute....

  • Ok, so I ordered two sets, got one today and the other should be here on Friday.

Well, as other have said, card stock is not the best. Also, good autographs must be extremely limited, as I got ........ DANIEL BARD, ufff. At least it's not Chris Getz.

The good thing about the set though, is that I've been able to sell singles on Ebay and I've been able to net $75 on 15 cards sold. Still have the Cespedes, Ichiro, Darvish, Bard auto and commons, probably will end up selling between $125 - $140, good enough to get some of my money back.

    It could have been worse!!

Just read Craig's post about the High Number set in 2012 and decided to check Ebay. Unopened box is selling for around $500 (a year later).

Wonder if there are better prices, but still quite an increase from the $100 sales price.

    Any word for 2013 ?

One sold on 8/17 with a BIN of $350

Current auction has an initial bid of $379

Not too many sealed sets on ebay.

A great crop of rookies in this set.

I still have a 5 set box sealed in the closet.

Looking forward to the 2013 set with Yasiel Puig RC in it. image

  • That was mine that just sold for $350....I've also got 4 more in the closet.

I put it on the BST for $300 and had no takers.

    Very nice price.

I wonder how many are still unopened.

    2-300 maybe?

I guess Blowout is attempting to set the price at $500 then.

Will be interesting if they do it again this year.
  • Yeah...I noticed Blowout's price at $500+...I thought $350 was very fair considering what the sets had been selling for. Also, the odds of pulling gradable 10's out of that box is tough. The cards are very loose ...and the bottom corners being colored...eh.
